What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care is a conservative, non-surgical, low impact approach to musculoskeletal and nervous system conditions as well as their effects on general health. A chiropractor focuses on the intimate relationship between the nervous system and the spine. Biomechanical and structural misalignment of the spine can directly affect the nervous system. This is called a subluxation. A chiropractic adjustment can restore the structural integrity of the spine and decrease pressure on the sensitive neurological tissue, therefore improving the health of the individual. So in order for our body to work at it's peak condition we must correct any subluxations. Since the nervous system is throughout the body, chiropractors take a whole body approach by helping the body realign so it can naturally heal on it’s own and by recommending nutritional supplements instead of using prescription medications.
What can I expect on my first visit?
On your first visit to see Dr. Young, you will need to arrive 15 minutes early to your appointment so you can fill out new patient paperwork. Dr. Young will then consult with you about your goals for the visit and your condition. She will assess your condition and give a spinal adjustment. The doctor will determine subsequent office visits at this time.
How often should I receive chiropractic care?
Some of our patients come in once a month for maintenance care but every person is different and it will depend on your body and your conditions to determine how often you may need to come in.
What techniques does Dr. Young use?
Dr. Young uses diversified technique, an activator, spinal decompression traction therapy, and a drop table to better help patients with multiple needs.
Will chiropractic care be painful?
Usually chiropractic adjustments do not hurt and relief can be immediate. If a patient comes into our office already in pain and with inflammation most likely there will be discomfort until the patient is out of an acute state. Patients generally enjoy the adjustment and the relief that follows.
How do I know if I need chiropractic care?
Dr. Young will need to evaluate and talk to the patient in order to fully recommend if chiropractic care is the best approach for your condition.
Can't I just take some pain reliever, like Ibuprofen?
You can, and it will give some relief but it will only cover up the symptoms not address the root problem.
Am I able to receive chiropractic care if I’m pregnant?
Yes. We have many expectant mothers come into our office throughout their entire pregnancy.
Is chiropractic care an option for kids?
Absolutely! Children of all ages respond very well to chiropractic care. We love seeing the whole family! A guardian must be present for anyone who is 17 years old or younger.
How would massage therapy help in chiropractic care?
Many patients receive massage therapy with chiropractic care in the same visit. We have found that when the muscles are more relaxed from a therapeutic massage it allows the spinal adjustment to be more effective. If you're not sure if a massage will help your condition, don't hesitate to ask.
